About the Park
Independence Park is located at the corner of Lone Oak Road and Alben Barkley Drive (114 Forest Circle). The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset.
It's a fenced park with a gazebo, benches, picnic tables, irrigation, and climbing boulders for the kids. The gate to enter the park is off Forest Circle. The park is divided into two sections: a designated dog park area and a non-dog park area.
Dog Park Rules
- Independence Park has a designated dog park side. Dogs must be on a 3-foot leash or less at all times if not in the dog park section.
- Pick up after dogs and dispose in dog waste receptacle.
- Properly dispose of all people and pet food and drink. Leave no trace.
History of Independence Park
Members of Independence Bank, City officials, and the community dedicated Independence Park on October 30, 2013. The site was originally intended for the bank's two-story signature location which has since been built just past the park on Broadway. After community members expressed concerns about the property being used for commercial purposes, the bank decided to donate the land to the City and build a park for the community to enjoy.
On November 14, 2014, the Kentucky Recreation & Park Society (KRPS) presented Independence Bank President and CEO Mr. Chris Reid with a Special Citation Award for the development of Independence Park. This award recognizes individuals, private industry, or agencies that have given outstanding help or aid in the field of recreation or leisure time pursuits.
