2024 Halloween Safety

Date of Release:
October 28, 2024

Halloween is only a few days away. The City of Paducah wants you to have a safe evening trick-or-treating. Please note that the City doesn't designate trick-or-treat hours; however, expect to see the highest number of trick-or-treaters between 5 and 8 p.m.

Here are a few safety reminders:

  • Select costumes that are reflective, fit appropriately, and are not tripping hazards.
  • Make sure that costume swords and similar accessories are short, soft, and flexible.
  • Try to avoid walking in the road unless the street is blocked off.  Walk on sidewalks or the edge of yards.
  • Select houses with their front porch lights on in familiar neighborhoods.
  • Don’t go inside any house or accept a ride from a stranger.
  • Don’t be a distracted trick-or-treater. Avoid looking at cellphones and watch traffic. Never assume cars will stop since motorists may have difficulty seeing a trick-or-treater.
  • Don’t pet or approach any animals.
  • Carry a flashlight.
  • Have Fun!

If you are expecting trick-or-treaters to visit your home, help them stay safe by turning on outdoor lights, removing tripping hazards such as garden hoses, toys, and lawn decorations, sweeping leaves away from sidewalks and porches, and restraining pets.

The Jefferson Street Neighborhood is planning to hold its annual Halloween event on October 31 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. which includes the closure of Jefferson Street to vehicles from 17th Street (Fountain Avenue) to 28th Street with cross traffic on 21st Street. The roadways will close around 5 p.m. Participating residents will have their porch light on.
