Over the next few weeks, Mayor George Bray is releasing a series of City Profile episodes in which he talks with members of the Paducah Board of Commissioners. On this City Profile episode, Mayor Bray interviews City Commissioner Dujuan Thomas.
Commissioner Thomas was elected in November 2024 as the youngest commissioner in Paducah’s history. A Paducah Tilghman graduate, who enlisted in the Army National Guard at 17, Commissioner Thomas said that his passion is serving others and helping the community understand city government.
“I bridge those gaps in our community and help people understand how local government works and the importance of local government,” said Commissioner Thomas.
Thomas added that he enjoys visiting schools and meeting with local youth. “I value interacting with the kids and talking to them about public service and finding that passion for serving others and being a leader because you don't have to be elected to be a leader. I try to instill that in them that at your age, you can help lead your friends, you can help lead your community, your family, and you could be that leader that you need to be.”
In this 27-minute episode, Mayor Bray and Commissioner Thomas talk candidly about a variety of topics. Discussion topics include the following:
- Commissioner Thomas’ family history of public service.
- Communication.
- Opportunities for Paducah regarding housing and the Southside.
- Economic development.
- Homelessness.
In addition to airing on Government 11 (for Comcast subscribers), the episode also is online at paducahky.gov and the various social media outlets for the City of Paducah including Youtube and Facebook. City Profile is produced through the television production facilities at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.
