The community is invited to provide ideas for the memorial to honor Dr. William Stuart Nelson. This memorial will be at the Paducah Sports Park which is under construction at the former Bluegrass Downs property and Stuart Nelson Park.
William Stuart Nelson (1895–1977) was a Paducah native, educator, civil rights leader, and a pioneer of the nonviolent movement. The memorial will honor his legacy at a plaza being planned within the new Sports Park. The community’s ideas will help shape a lasting tribute that reflects community pride and respect for Dr. Nelson’s life and legacy.
The survey, which takes approximately 5 minutes, is available through Tuesday, September 30 at Dr. Nelson Memorial Survey.
Please note that not all ideas will be implemented in the final design of the memorial space, and the final space may not be fully constructed by the time the Paducah Sports Park opens in April 2026.
