As the City of Paducah embraces and implements the federal and state directives regarding social distancing to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we are requesting the faith community to abide by the directives and continue providing only virtual services.
Mayor Brandi Harless said, “With the upcoming Easter Sunday, we know that people want to be together to worship. However, the safest way is by worshipping at home and participating in virtual services.”
“I praise our local faith community for being adaptable and using technology to reach their congregations. During this pandemic crisis, I ask them to join us in continuing to make the sacrifices we are all making and to not hold in-person or drive-in services in parking lots or other locations,” added Harless.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has reiterated the need for churches and other houses of worship to forego holding in-person services.
“If you are still holding mass gatherings, church or otherwise, you are spreading the coronavirus and you are likely causing the death of Kentuckians. It’s that clear,” said Governor Beshear.
“My church is incredibly important to me. My faith is incredibly important to me. It’s an important part of our families’ lives. We care about each other in this state, and our faith guides us and gives us the wisdom to do the right thing to protect each other.”
