Paducah Parks and Recreation Projects to Improve Local Parks by Removing Dilapidated Structures

Date of Release:
May 06, 2026

Beginning Friday, May 8, Paducah Parks and Recreation will begin improvement projects at two local parks, including the removal of two aging structures to enhance safety.

A contractor for the Parks and Recreation Department will remove a deteriorated pedestrian bridge located off Seitz Street. The bridge spans Cross Creek behind John Sheppard Field, a softball and soccer complex near Brooks Stadium. The bridge has reached the end of its usable life. The bridge removal project is expected to take two to three days to complete, weather permitting.

Pedestrians are encouraged to use the nearby South 24th Street bridge, which was rehabilitated in 2020 and features improved drainage along with ADA-compliant sidewalks on both sides, providing a safer and more accessible crossing.

Crews also will remove an aging pavilion at Midtown Park off Adams Street. The structure’s removal will help create a safer, park environment while opening opportunities for future improvements. This project is expected to take two to three days to complete, weather permitting.

John Sheppard Field and Midtown Park will remain open throughout the demolition projects. However, the public is asked to avoid active work areas for safety.
